Web page: MOIST dataset metadata

Area: East Sicily

Instrument: IFSI (INAF) Prototype #1

Period: October 10, 2002 - February 20, 2003

Abstract: A prototype of gravity meter built at the Istituto di Fisica dello Spazio Interplanetario (IFSI) of the National Institute of Astro-Physics (INAF) was installed on the SN1 deep-sea multidisciplinary observatory, offshore of the Eastern coast of Sicily. The gravity meter provides measurements of variation of the vertical component of the acceleration with respect to an initial reference value.

Purpose: The comparison between seismic signal with the continuous gravimetric measurement can help to characterise different styles of the Etna volcanic activity.

Quality of data: The gravity meter acquires one sample per second in continuous mode. The data show a good signal to noise ratio (S/N).
